Hi everyone,
This weekend the plan is to head on up to Ruapehu and hit the snow. There'll be a variety of things going on including AIC basics for people that haven't done any snow stuff before, snow caving and other activities(to be confirmed) for those slightly more experienced and for people who prefer to be lazy and get carried up a mountain and then slide back down there'll also be a bunch of us skiing/boarding.
Plan at the moment is to head up Friday night and get back Sunday night. We will be camping/snow caving both Friday and Saturday night. Cost $50ish (may be less TBC). Bring your own breakfast, lunches and snacks, Friday night will be takeaways, Saturday will be group dinners.
To come on this trip you will need all the standard tramping gear on the gear list - on right hand side of website home page - plus
- Boots - must be able to keep the snow out - gaiters are also strongly advised
- Full waterproofs/wind proof - jacket, pants and gloves - you can get "pants in a bag" from the Warehouse that work alright (in fact I own and use them)
- Lots and lots of warm clothes beanie, polypro, down jackets etc - it will be cold!
- Sunglasses and sunscreen
The club will provide tents, cookers, billies and technical gear such as ice axes, crampons, helmets - if you have your own please bring it (and let us know) as the club only has so much gear and not all of it is the flashest
To sign up come to the meeting tomorrow night or flick me an email at bethparkin@hotmail.com before Wednesday morning. When you sign up make sure to let me know what you're keen to get up to and what your experience is so we can put you in an appropriate group :).
Should be an awesome weekend and the weather is looking great at this stage!
Cheers,
Beth
